Jorge Martinez started dancing in Buenos Aires, Argentina at 21 years of age after studying acting and performing in musical theater and television. He began his intensive study of dance at the Teatro San Martin where he studied traditional ballet, modern techniques and composition. In 1997 he won a scholarship to study technique and reparatory with Wally Cardona. Through Wally’s work, Jorge was introduced to Klein Technique™. He fell in love with Klein Technique™ and began working with it on his own and worked to integrate it into his work and the techniques he was familial with. During this period of time he also began an intensive study and practice of Contact Improvisation and began working as a choreographer, making his own work. His last piece, Esquina, was produced with a grant from the Department of Culture in Buenos Aires. In 2000 he performed at the Kennedy Center and Spoleto Festival in a piece by Brenda Angiel as part of a national tour of the USA. In 2002, Jorge won an Antorchas’s Scholarship from Argentina in order to study Klein Technique™ with Susan Klein at her studio, The Susan Klein School of Movement and Dance in New York City. He stayed in New York for several years and studied Klein Technique™ daily and intensively. He also was asked to join the Klein Technique™ Teacher Certification Program.
